Arthur C. Clarke

A murit Arthur C. Clarke, unul dintre cei mai importanti scriitori de Hard SF. Nascut pe 16 decembrie 1917 si decedat pe 19 martie 2008, avea 90 de ani.
A debutat in Astounding Science Fiction in 1946 cu povestirile "Loophole" in aprilie si, respectiv, "Rescue Party" in mai. A fost autorul povestirii "The Sentinel", pe care-a scris-o in 1948, ce a stat la baza filmului "2001: A Space Odyssey", celebrul film regizat de Stanley Kubrick in 1968.
A fost cel care a sugerat ideea ca satelitii geostationari vor fi ideali pentru a fi folositi ca relee de telecomunicatii. Ca semn de recunostinta, orbita geostationara de 36000 de km de deasupra Ecuatorului a fost recunoscuta de catre Uniunea Astronomica Internationala ca fiind o "Orbita Clarke".
